  BRYANT SPOTLIGHT ON KINDNESS

On Tuesday, October 28 students and staff from Bryant Elementary Dressed up to put a spotlight on kindness to overpower bullying. Mrs. Homstad and Mrs. Winkle’s Class were “crazy” for kindness and sported crazy hair. Mrs. Hudson’s Class “teamed” up for kindness and wore their favorite team apparel. Mrs. O’Connell’s Class “dreamed” for kindness and wore their PJ’s. Avery Quinones from the Bryant 5th Grade Leadership Team gave this weekly kindness challenge to all students: “Laughter is the best medicine. Surround yourself with positive people that make you laugh and brighten your life. Each day this week, try to make someone new laugh and be a positive influence in his/her life.”

  HEALTH ALERT

The Douglas County Health Department has noted an increased number of pertussis (whooping cough) cases in our area. Pertussis is an infectious disease that affects the airways. The bacteria that cause pertussis are easily spread from person to person by coughing or sneezing. The pertussis cough can be severe and last for weeks or months, sometimes leading to coughing fits or vomiting. Anyone can get pertussis, but it can be very dangerous for infants and people with weakened immune systems. Family members with pertussis, especially mothers, can spread pertussis to newborns. If your child currently has or develops symptoms of pertussis, contact your child’s doctor.  Read more...

  FACILITIES ADEQUACY STUDY

On June 14, 2013, the Board of Education chose LHB, Inc. to conduct an adequacy study of all district facilities. Since that time, LHB has toured the facilities, gathered information and conducted meetings with staff members.

In early 2014, the firm has presented its findings to the Board. In January, energy consulting firm McKinstry presented an energy assessment study. The Board heard details on the physical condition of facilities in February, and on March 6, 2014, LHB presented the educational adequacy portion of its study.

LHB presented its recommendations, including costs, in a draft plan at the April 15 School Board meeting.  The Board continues to meet to discuss the recommendations it has received from LHB.
